Dental Sensitivity
Dental Sensitivity is a common problem. Sensitivity can be caused by foods and drinks when they are too cold or too hot, too sweet, or too sour. Air and touch can also cause sensitivity. Discomfort can be momentary or it may linger.
The cause of sensitivity is often a microscopic breach in the integrity of the tooth. Pre-fracture cracks and areas of exposed dentin (found near receeding gums) can cause sensitivity. It is important to rule out tooth decay or dental disease as its cause. To temporarily reduce sensitivity, dentists use desensitizing gels, toothpastes, and varnishes.
